SCALP MICROPIGMENTATION
SMP stands for Scalp Micro-Pigmentation. It is a medical-grade tattoo of the scalp that creates the appearance of more hair in the area where you want it to look fuller.
The process is done over several sessions, spaced 2-4 weeks apart. After the skin has healed and the tattoo pigment has settled, we evaluate the results and decide where more pigment and density should be added. Over time, the SMP pigment will gradually fade, and touch-up sessions will eventually be needed.
SMP can be used for the following purposes:
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
There are three main differences between SMP and tattooing. The pigment is deposited into the skin at a shallower depth than tattoos, only about 2 mm into the dermis. Through SMP, small micro dots are made through a pointillism method, with no shading or drawing lines. We only use a black pigment which has been more heavily diluted compared to typical tattoo inks.
-
The results can last anywhere from two to ten years, with retention impacted by skin type, sun exposure, and chemicals.
-
This can vary from person to person, depending on what area you're getting done. The final results are usually visible after the second or third session.
-
The procedure time varies depending on the size of the area of coverage. The procedure can be as short as 30 minutes or as long as 4+ hours.
-
The first session is important for creating a framework for subsequent sessions. Pigment absorption varies across different skin types, so follow-up sessions are needed to identify areas where pigment needs reinforcement and additional density to achieve a consistent appearance.
-
In order to allow for proper healing and to accurately assess pigment retention, it is recommended to wait between 2-4 weeks for each procedure.
-
The needle and pigment used do not penetrate deep enough to reach or damage the hair follicle.

THE HEALING PROCESS
Each person's body heals differently. Your fresh tattoo may appear light at first. As your skin continues healing, the color will bloom and become more visible. The true color of your new tattoo will be best viewed around six weeks after your appointment. This is a multi-session process. Any light or patchy areas will be addressed at your follow-up appointment(s).
DAY OF TREATMENT
Eyes may appear red and swollen and may last 1-2 days (For most, it will appear as though you have cried) A cold pack may be applied for up to 10 mins to ease any discomfort.
DAYS 2-10
• Keep the area dry and avoid excessive amounts of water, including sweating from exercise.
• Do not apply any eye makeup, cleansers, lotions/creams, or ointments for this period.
• You may see some scabbing, flaking, and peeling. This can appear like mascara flakes or stuck on eyelash glue. Do not pick or scratch the area. Picking can lead to loss of color and definition.
